ESC Heart Failure 2026 Congress

Overview

The Heart Failure 2026 Congress, organized by the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC-HFA), took place in Barcelona, Spain, from May 9 to 12, 2026. This flagship scientific event brought together leading cardiologists, researchers, and clinicians from around the world to share the latest advances in heart failure prevention, diagnosis, and management.

Armenia was proudly represented at this prestigious congress with a total of 11 accepted scientific abstracts, presented by cardiologists from leading medical institutions across the country. This reflects the growing contribution of Armenian cardiology to the global scientific community and demonstrates the high quality of clinical research being conducted in Armenia.

Armenian Presenters

The Armenian scientific abstracts were presented by the following researchers:

  • Professor Hamlet Hayrapetyan

  • Associate Professor Laura Sahakyan

  • Doctor Rostam Shamoyan

  • Associate Professor Lusine Hazarapetyan

Key Research Themes

The 11 accepted abstracts covered a wide spectrum of clinically relevant topics in contemporary heart failure research, including:

  • Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)- echocardiographic markers and strain imaging

  • Registry data: ESC Heart Failure III Registry results from Armenia and the ARMI nationwide STEMI registry

  • Pharmacological interventions: colchicine and dapagliflozin (SGLT2 inhibitor) therapy post-STEMI

  • Psychological comorbidities: anxiety and depression in acute heart failure

  • Fibrosis biomarkers and cardiac remodeling in chronic heart failure

  • Atrial fibrillation risk factors in HFpEF patients

  • Impact of total ischemic time on acute heart failure in STEMI
